If there was only one piece of advice that I could offer it would be this; do not be afraid to raise petechiae. Gua sha predates all similar techniques by over 2000 years. There is valid reason why it has been retained throughout such a long period of time; it works. The most overlooked and misunderstood aspect of treating soft tissues with a tool is a hesitation or fear of raising sha or petechiae. Unfortunately, this has been lost in most modern techniques. However, this is the key to success with gua sha. There is skill involved in both using an edged tool and selection of appropriate patients. Our educational guides and practice will help you acquire this ancient and extremely efficient method of addressing chronic soft tissue pain and dysfunction.
